Ahh..another Ramadhan month, Alhamdulillah. No golf for at least a month. Tonite; the 1st Tarawikh @ Omak's place. Surau Nuril Iman. Tomorrow, the 1st Sahur of Ramadhan.

This year , kena jimat le sket. Every year cakap kena jimat, but in reality, lagi banyak belanja la!!! Hamlau!!

Man!!! the past few months has been hectic. Gotta a replacement maid. Thank God!!! An adventure by itself. Went to Jakarta to pick the maid myself. I'll probably write about it later.

Went back to work for a large company, even though I have not abandon my business in it's entirety. Currently, managing a group of consultants in an MNC from France. Busy; but at the same time, having lots of fun. Going back to my TELCO roots. Package offered....not bad.

Golf? surprisingly have not been playing as much as I want to. I played last week after a 3 and half week hiatus. Score wise? not bad.

What else? ooo..I've been "advising" a friend on his upcoming "recycling" project...he he he

Now get going and proof that we ,the rakyat were right in choosing you as the leaders. Yang rakyat2 pun patut nya work together with the "government" yg di pileh for a better Malaysia.

The maid is going back to Indon this Saturday. She's not that good so it don't really matter. What matters now is to find a new house-keeper..and quick!!!!

In another news..Tiger Woods won again in Dubai last week; and he's 2 for 2 this year. Not a surprise considering the form he's in. The Malaysian Golf Association has scrapped their plan to get Woods to play in the Malaysian Open next year. Reason...the asking appearance fee for Woods is US3 Million..YIKES!!!! And The Malaysian Open is only a US3 Million event!!! Ha ha

...and the winner is..not me..but close enough

I did not win the "kengkawan-golf" tourney at Tasik Puteri GCC; but 2nd was close enough; furthermore i won quite some sum of "mullah" from the "incentive" games we had within the flight mates.

I've won two golf tourneys within this week ; first; PERNEC Invitational with a score of 1 under; and the other was the PTGC Monthly Tournament; Medal-A with 3 under. Not bad...Not bad at all. The next tournament would be 1st Feb at Tasik Puteri GCC. I hope I will still be good that day....

What's new with me?

I play less golf; thus it shows in the score...handicap went up to 10; no more single handicap for me.

I worry a little less about the score of my golf rounds...but worry a lot more about getting paid on time.

My savings is not as good as I thought when i quit my job and dived into my own business; so far; I'm surviving..I hope I will survive...I know I will survive... coz I'm a survivor.

In conjunction with Eid ul-ftr 1428H celebration that is coming soon, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my “Selamat Hari Raya and Maaf Zahir dan Bathin” to all of you........

With the back feels much better after a few good "traditional" massages; I'm swinging a lot better now. The distance is back. Got 3-birdies on the 2nd nine at PTGC last weekend; with 2 of them , back-to-back. Not bad huh?

Will play with a 1st time "golf course" beginner this Friday. Have not done that in a while; it's going to be interesting.

I was invited to a 'charity' golf in honour of the 60th birthday of one Malaysian Minister.
"How much?" My initial reaction.
"RM 350/person...What's ur handicap? " Organizer
"9..."
"Ahhh...Tan Sri was looking for a single handicapper to play with him... I can get you to be in one-flight with him...interested?"
"What is Tan Sri's handicap?" Me
"22...usually it will cost "people" RM50,000 to be in the same flight with him; for you special price...RM10,000"
"Huh??! Are you CRAZEEE!!? I'll join the "charity" golf but just put me in some other flight; won't pay that much to play with a 22 handicapper...and the norm is.... the high handicapper would have to pay to play with a single!!! Ahak

130 meters to the green? Let's take the 8 iron, and put the ball into the green... hmmm...where's the 8 iron? Carefull now...8 iron... my "nice, and reliable" Taylor Made RAC TP 8 iron; where are you? YIKES!!!!! It's not in the bag!!! Shessh... it's missing and I don't remember the last time I used it and which course. DAMN!!!

With that, currently I got a "Callaway Big Bertha Titanium 454" Driver; R-Flex; 10 degree; Cleveland Launcher; 15 degree and 22 degree Fairway woods; S-Flex; " Taylor Made RAC TP Irons - 3-7; 9-PW; Steel shaft, S-flex, Cleveland 588-chrome 52 degree and 56 degree wedges; medium-bounce; PING Anser Putter, Callaway HX Tour or Srixon Z-urs balls.... and the old Cleveland TA-7 or TA-3 8-iron;from my previous iron sets...hmmmm... my biggest problem with this setup? The ball flight and distance between the Taylor Made and the Cleveland irons are not the same. I'm SCREWED!!!!...big time. Taylor Made... HELP!!!! I need the 8-iron of your RAC TP; not the whole set but just the 8-iron. Anybody out there that can help me?

I can't putt; I can't chip and I just lost my touch in pitching. Wow!!! This is serious. Don't know whether it's the lack of playing and practise time or just mental. Last week I shot 90. Haven't been in the 90 territory for quite some time now... the last time I shot over 90 was over a year ago. On hole 1, PTGC, par-4, I was 2 on; 15 feet from the hole; and I got double!!!! Sucks and Yucks.

Worse is, this week, sunday, monthly medal... and I'll be group in with the other single handicappers that can really PLAY. OUCH!!!!

A two-days tourney. I guess there are still nine more gross golfers that's better than me at the club, coz I was not able to improve my last year position of number 10. Well, I just have to keep on practicing and keep on trying. Hmmmmm.... On the bright side, I'm still within the bracket of the top 10 best golfers of the club, ......not bad.

I realize how much I miss having the "de facto" authority in deciding which path the company should go. I think it's about time for me to leave this company and jump into the "unknown" ... building up a corporation from scratch. Been toying around with the idea a few weeks now, getting verbal supports from my loyal customers, getting the business model just right to attract the right associates, etc. I will still be "in touch" in one way or the other with the current company. I hope to finalize things by February, latest March. GOOD LUCK TO ME.

OM used to hold a VP position at the U; ......

What can I say that would not sound defensive......

Truth of the matter is that, we (The Chairman, the President of the University and 2 VPs), gave up on the government machinery when we were given the task to set this University up. We did not give up on the government or its specific leaders - Mahathir was PM then- we gave up on the system. I was the first to give up, tak tahan, not getting anywhere.

The government machinery - from the Ministry of Science (MOSTE), to the MInistry of Higher Education and the Jabatan Pendidikan, the Treasury and the PM's Dept - the people we were in contact with, were never really keen on the idea for this Research University to be set up.

How come? Despite a collaboration with the best research university in the world (that is not a biased statement even if it comes from an alumni), this initiative was doomed from the start because no politician of 'power' (it was only an initiative of Mahathir, after that he was not in the picture) was involved, only hardworking, non-partisan and committed Malays from MCKK
(sorry....but that's the truth, other people do not want the job...susah buat University cara baru...research-based, post-graduate).

Personally, as the VP Operations, I was front-line to face the absurd bureaucratic shenanigans of our own Malay civil servants who somehow have the impression that this project is either too elitist or too dream-like or just plain boring.....or not 'beneficial' to them.

I am tempted to write a long treatise on what those shortcoimngs were, or how the University failed, people would brand me as protecting my backside, but suffice to sum it as...

If there is one disappointment of the Malay Administrators (I do not want to use the Govt, for then people would straight away point to the PM) that I'd like to pinpoint and highlight, it is THIS failure to build upon an opportunity that was served on a platter to help propel Malays, and Malaysia, in the area of scientific reasearch and breakthroughs. This failure should rank high as a major failure of the Malays who have been trusted to manage the development process, higher than the failure of the Bahasa Baku and.....

We were willing to spend millions to establish the MSC etc etc and go out of our way to launch grandiose projects that have short shelf life - bio-valley? E-village? We set-up VERY expensive universities like Unisel and all those University Colleges, which are just factories to produce degrees.

Yet MUST, have to beg, borrow, and almost steal, to make the University work, to make the PM's project work - to get permits for our lecturers, wasn't even allowed to collect for our Trust Fund, denied research grants simply because we are not a public university, or they could not understand the projects and/or refuse to think.......list goes on.

To my next generation, children, nephews, nieces and cucus reading this, if you are in a position to impact on the implementation of projects or work in areas to benefit the long term development of our people and country, work sincerely. Do more than expected, ikhlas, and please do not make decisions based on what is normal, or procedural. Take pains to understand the bigger picture, ask relevant questions and listen...yes .....listen, those guys I was dealing with do not know how to listen, do not want to listen, only want to show their power. They are selfish, and sombong tak tentu arah.

Also just because something is difficult, do not give up or be scared. I've personally seen Malays with 1st Class Honours who refuse to study at MUST because it is in English, because we require strong mathematics and research with MIT is tough. Hey, we even pay you to study at MUST

Maaf, Om nak cakap kasar sikit..... budak Melayu tak de telor, hanya nak senang...."Buat Masters and PhD kat UPM kan senang, nak pass pun senang, tak payah buat research susah susah..." this is an exact quote from a Malay UKM graduate! Malu, it was told in front of my Chinese Professor!

Akhirnya, yang rugi orang Melayu sendiri. Jangan salahkan orang Cina, India, Bangla, Indonesia, Filipina, orang kita sendiri yang melemahkan bangsa kita. Kita, nampak gayanya, lebih senang bercakap, tapi bila suruh buat, tak nak, kerja kita, kita suruh orang lain buat, lepas tu komen.....

Masya'Allah.....insaflah, jangan asyik marahkan orang.... Dollah Badawi lembab lah, Najib tak betul lah, orang tu tak betul lah, tapi ambil langkah nak bantu, nak tolong....haram!

Having said all that, jangan terlalu senang mengutuk bangsa kita sendiri, meludah kelangit nanti........ tampar air dalam dulang kena..........

Persidangan UMNO baru je lepas. Berdegar-degar perwakilan bercakap tentang loyalty to the President and pasal ketuanan Melayu. For me, I'm happy to see my x-room-mate making a wave in the persidangan. Ketua Pemuda kat negeri yang berlatar belakang kan orang minang. By the way, aku orang minang gak. He spoke about not putting any timeline in achieving the 30% Malay equity. He, he ada Karisma gak kawan aku sorang ni.

Hari ni gua sent an SMS to him " Assalamu'alaikum Datuk ML; lps persidangan ni gua nampak lu ada kaliber bakal jadi MB la, Insyaallah, nanti bila jadi MB, jangan lupa member lama ok.."

Within minutes, he replied " Bahaya ayat ni bro! Klau ada org dngar, tak elok, kecik ati yg skrg ... org lain lain lbih baik drpd aku. Aku tak ada cita2 tinggi dlm politik. Hanya berkhidmat mana yg bole. Nanti free kita jumpa and borak panjang"

Insyaallah, besok sambut raya. Raya tahun ni kat rumah omak di Taman Pelangi. Coincide plak raya ni ngan Birthday Omak...ni kira baguih ni. Malam ni nak gak pergi takbir rumah ke rumah. Bebudak belum apa-apa dah dapat duit raya. Si ZAB, boss wife gua dah kasi duit raya ke budak-budak. Banyak plak tu...RM50/each. Ishhhh...ni lagi banyak dari apa yang gua nak kasi.

"Golfer Melayu...Buat apa lu kerja ngan mika?...mengkayakan bangsa tu aje..Baik la lu join gua..kita buat duit sama-sama; at least kita satu bangsa" ..One of my friend; asking me to join force with him doing business and at the same time trying to make me feel bad on the fact that my partners and employer are from a different race.

A few days ago; a lot of bru-ha-ha when Lee Kuan Yew talks about the Malaysian Chinese being marginalised in Malaysia. APOLOGIZE!!!!! or we will do something...Malaysian politicians especially from UMNO.
