Ahh..another Ramadhan month, Alhamdulillah. No golf for at least a month. Tonite; the 1st Tarawikh @ Omak's place. Surau Nuril Iman. Tomorrow, the 1st Sahur of Ramadhan.

This year , kena jimat le sket. Every year cakap kena jimat, but in reality, lagi banyak belanja la!!! Hamlau!!

Man!!! the past few months has been hectic. Gotta a replacement maid. Thank God!!! An adventure by itself. Went to Jakarta to pick the maid myself. I'll probably write about it later.

Went back to work for a large company, even though I have not abandon my business in it's entirety. Currently, managing a group of consultants in an MNC from France. Busy; but at the same time, having lots of fun. Going back to my TELCO roots. Package offered....not bad.

Golf? surprisingly have not been playing as much as I want to. I played last week after a 3 and half week hiatus. Score wise? not bad.

What else? ooo..I've been "advising" a friend on his upcoming "recycling" project...he he he

The maid is going back to Indon this Saturday. She's not that good so it don't really matter. What matters now is to find a new house-keeper..and quick!!!!

In another news..Tiger Woods won again in Dubai last week; and he's 2 for 2 this year. Not a surprise considering the form he's in. The Malaysian Golf Association has scrapped their plan to get Woods to play in the Malaysian Open next year. Reason...the asking appearance fee for Woods is US3 Million..YIKES!!!! And The Malaysian Open is only a US3 Million event!!! Ha ha

I've won two golf tourneys within this week ; first; PERNEC Invitational with a score of 1 under; and the other was the PTGC Monthly Tournament; Medal-A with 3 under. Not bad...Not bad at all. The next tournament would be 1st Feb at Tasik Puteri GCC. I hope I will still be good that day....

What's new with me?

I play less golf; thus it shows in the score...handicap went up to 10; no more single handicap for me.

I worry a little less about the score of my golf rounds...but worry a lot more about getting paid on time.

My savings is not as good as I thought when i quit my job and dived into my own business; so far; I'm surviving..I hope I will survive...I know I will survive... coz I'm a survivor.

In conjunction with Eid ul-ftr 1428H celebration that is coming soon, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my “Selamat Hari Raya and Maaf Zahir dan Bathin” to all of you........

With the back feels much better after a few good "traditional" massages; I'm swinging a lot better now. The distance is back. Got 3-birdies on the 2nd nine at PTGC last weekend; with 2 of them , back-to-back. Not bad huh?

Will play with a 1st time "golf course" beginner this Friday. Have not done that in a while; it's going to be interesting.

I was invited to a 'charity' golf in honour of the 60th birthday of one Malaysian Minister.
"How much?" My initial reaction.
"RM 350/person...What's ur handicap? " Organizer

"Ahhh...Tan Sri was looking for a single handicapper to play with him... I can get you to be in one-flight with him...interested?"
"What is Tan Sri's handicap?" Me
"22...usually it will cost "people" RM50,000 to be in the same flight with him; for you special price...RM10,000"

130 meters to the green? Let's take the 8 iron, and put the ball into the green... hmmm...where's the 8 iron? Carefull now...8 iron... my "nice, and reliable" Taylor Made RAC TP 8 iron; where are you? YIKES!!!!! It's not in the bag!!! Shessh... it's missing and I don't remember the last time I used it and which course. DAMN!!!

With that, currently I got a "Callaway Big Bertha Titanium 454" Driver; R-Flex; 10 degree; Cleveland Launcher; 15 degree and 22 degree Fairway woods; S-Flex; " Taylor Made RAC TP Irons - 3-7; 9-PW; Steel shaft, S-flex, Cleveland 588-chrome 52 degree and 56 degree wedges; medium-bounce; PING Anser Putter, Callaway HX Tour or Srixon Z-urs balls.... and the old Cleveland TA-7 or TA-3 8-iron;from my previous iron sets...hmmmm... my biggest problem with this setup? The ball flight and distance between the Taylor Made and the Cleveland irons are not the same. I'm SCREWED!!!!...big time. Taylor Made... HELP!!!! I need the 8-iron of your RAC TP; not the whole set but just the 8-iron. Anybody out there that can help me?

I can't putt; I can't chip and I just lost my touch in pitching. Wow!!! This is serious. Don't know whether it's the lack of playing and practise time or just mental. Last week I shot 90. Haven't been in the 90 territory for quite some time now... the last time I shot over 90 was over a year ago. On hole 1, PTGC, par-4, I was 2 on; 15 feet from the hole; and I got double!!!! Sucks and Yucks.

Worse is, this week, sunday, monthly medal... and I'll be group in with the other single handicappers that can really PLAY. OUCH!!!!

A two-days tourney. I guess there are still nine more gross golfers that's better than me at the club, coz I was not able to improve my last year position of number 10. Well, I just have to keep on practicing and keep on trying. Hmmmmm.... On the bright side, I'm still within the bracket of the top 10 best golfers of the club, ......not bad.

I realize how much I miss having the "de facto" authority in deciding which path the company should go. I think it's about time for me to leave this company and jump into the "unknown" ... building up a corporation from scratch. Been toying around with the idea a few weeks now, getting verbal supports from my loyal customers, getting the business model just right to attract the right associates, etc. I will still be "in touch" in one way or the other with the current company. I hope to finalize things by February, latest March. GOOD LUCK TO ME.

What can I say that would not sound defensive......

Truth of the matter is that, we (The Chairman, the President of the University and 2 VPs), gave up on the government machinery when we were given the task to set this University up. We did not give up on the government or its specific leaders - Mahathir was PM then- we gave up on the system. I was the first to give up, tak tahan, not getting anywhere.

The government machinery - from the Ministry of Science (MOSTE), to the MInistry of Higher Education and the Jabatan Pendidikan, the Treasury and the PM's Dept - the people we were in contact with, were never really keen on the idea for this Research University to be set up.

How come? Despite a collaboration with the best research university in the world (that is not a biased statement even if it comes from an alumni), this initiative was doomed from the start because no politician of 'power' (it was only an initiative of Mahathir, after that he was not in the picture) was involved, only hardworking, non-partisan and committed Malays from MCKK
(sorry....but that's the truth, other people do not want the job...susah buat University cara baru...research-based, post-graduate).

Personally, as the VP Operations, I was front-line to face the absurd bureaucratic shenanigans of our own Malay civil servants who somehow have the impression that this project is either too elitist or too dream-like or just plain boring.....or not 'beneficial' to them.

I am tempted to write a long treatise on what those shortcoimngs were, or how the University failed, people would brand me as protecting my backside, but suffice to sum it as...

If there is one disappointment of the Malay Administrators (I do not want to use the Govt, for then people would straight away point to the PM) that I'd like to pinpoint and highlight, it is THIS failure to build upon an opportunity that was served on a platter to help propel Malays, and Malaysia, in the area of scientific reasearch and breakthroughs. This failure should rank high as a major failure of the Malays who have been trusted to manage the development process, higher than the failure of the Bahasa Baku and.....

We were willing to spend millions to establish the MSC etc etc and go out of our way to launch grandiose projects that have short shelf life - bio-valley? E-village? We set-up VERY expensive universities like Unisel and all those University Colleges, which are just factories to produce degrees.

Yet MUST, have to beg, borrow, and almost steal, to make the University work, to make the PM's project work - to get permits for our lecturers, wasn't even allowed to collect for our Trust Fund, denied research grants simply because we are not a public university, or they could not understand the projects and/or refuse to think.......list goes on.

To my next generation, children, nephews, nieces and cucus reading this, if you are in a position to impact on the implementation of projects or work in areas to benefit the long term development of our people and country, work sincerely. Do more than expected, ikhlas, and please do not make decisions based on what is normal, or procedural. Take pains to understand the bigger picture, ask relevant questions and listen...yes .....listen, those guys I was dealing with do not know how to listen, do not want to listen, only want to show their power. They are selfish, and sombong tak tentu arah.

Also just because something is difficult, do not give up or be scared. I've personally seen Malays with 1st Class Honours who refuse to study at MUST because it is in English, because we require strong mathematics and research with MIT is tough. Hey, we even pay you to study at MUST

Maaf, Om nak cakap kasar sikit..... budak Melayu tak de telor, hanya nak senang...."Buat Masters and PhD kat UPM kan senang, nak pass pun senang, tak payah buat research susah susah..." this is an exact quote from a Malay UKM graduate! Malu, it was told in front of my Chinese Professor!

Akhirnya, yang rugi orang Melayu sendiri. Jangan salahkan orang Cina, India, Bangla, Indonesia, Filipina, orang kita sendiri yang melemahkan bangsa kita. Kita, nampak gayanya, lebih senang bercakap, tapi bila suruh buat, tak nak, kerja kita, kita suruh orang lain buat, lepas tu komen.....

Masya'Allah.....insaflah, jangan asyik marahkan orang.... Dollah Badawi lembab lah, Najib tak betul lah, orang tu tak betul lah, tapi ambil langkah nak bantu, nak tolong....haram!

Persidangan UMNO baru je lepas. Berdegar-degar perwakilan bercakap tentang loyalty to the President and pasal ketuanan Melayu. For me, I'm happy to see my x-room-mate making a wave in the persidangan. Ketua Pemuda kat negeri yang berlatar belakang kan orang minang. By the way, aku orang minang gak. He spoke about not putting any timeline in achieving the 30% Malay equity. He, he ada Karisma gak kawan aku sorang ni.

Hari ni gua sent an SMS to him " Assalamu'alaikum Datuk ML; lps persidangan ni gua nampak lu ada kaliber bakal jadi MB la, Insyaallah, nanti bila jadi MB, jangan lupa member lama ok.."

Within minutes, he replied " Bahaya ayat ni bro! Klau ada org dngar, tak elok, kecik ati yg skrg ... org lain lain lbih baik drpd aku. Aku tak ada cita2 tinggi dlm politik. Hanya berkhidmat mana yg bole. Nanti free kita jumpa and borak panjang"

Oii yoo...dah lama gua tak tulis apa-apa kat blog ni. Sibuk giler..wa cakap lu. Tapi sibuk2 tu pun, wa sempat gak pergi family day wife gua kat Awana Kijal. Main le dua rounds of golf kat situ. First day.. jalan;..score teramat memberansangkan.. 2nd day.. tournament..naik buggy. Wa menang best gross...tapi wa pun tak tau macam mana diaorang kira..sebab wa tak main that good that day.

Last golf before puasa was at Sri Selangor... Played very good... 2nd nine..3 birdies; with back-to-back birdies on the 17 and 18. Hari tu semua jadi...Drive; iron; short game and putting.

Puasa datang lagi. Dah seminggu kita puasa. Alhamdulillah. Harga barang bertambah naik. Average of about 30% le...eg..kalu dulu rega RM1.00/each sekarang rega dia RM1:30/each. Tapi nak salahkan penjual pun tak ble gak..minyak naik ..harga barang sumer naik. so, nak buat camner..diaorang pun nak buat duit gak.

Bulan Ramadhan..golf cuti. Dah seminggu tak pegang and swing kayu golop. Tadi baru tengok Tiger Woods menang WGC.. gian.. tapi tunggu aje la, maybe 3rd day of raya bole main balik...

Pas Raya nanti ada tournament " Ace of the Aces" Championship 2006..Palm Garden..Putrajaya. Will test power.

Tuesday morning; Cengkareng Golf Club. 1st hole; Par 5;...looks easy; OB on the right; hit my 1st drive...went straight to the right...OB.. 1st hole..Sucks...gotta double bogey on that hole. Got par on hole no.2 and 3, birdie hole no.4, par again on hole 5 and 6, bogey hole 7 and 8 and finished with another birdie on hole no. 9. Scored 38 in. 2 over gross ; not bad. 2nd Nine; Par on hole 10 and 11, bogey hole 12, then 3 par in a row, hole 13 to 15, a stupid bogey on hole 16...missed a two footer putt.., par hole 17, and finished the course with another par. 38 out. Scored 76 Gross. 4 over. 6 under my handicap. 11 Pars and 2 birdies. Not Bad. YEE HAAA. Cewek2 nyer pun cun-cun...

Yesterday was busy..nope...let's go with hectic. I woke up early in the morning. Too early...like 5 am. I was to be at "Palm Garden Golf and Country Resort" by 7 am, for a 7:30am tee-off time.. ASTRO-Philip Masters golf tournament. Gotta be out of that place by 2pm.... 2:30pm; a tender negotiation with a customer. Told my guys to change the nego time from 10am to 4:30am a day before that ; but 2:30pm was the only slot. Shessh....

I played quite well. 9 pars with 2 birdies. Played to a handicaped of 8. That's was at 1pm. After a quick shower I went for a quick lunch...gotta stay for a while to see if I got any placing. At 1:50pm, I gotta chance to look at the results, "bodek" the tourney officials la. My name was not in the top 5 A-Medal. Yikes!!! All the other players must be very good with their golf swing or the only other explanation was they were good with their pencil. Knowing that my name was not anywhere in the prize-list, I sped off to my intended nego place. At 2:15pm, 15 minutes before the intended time, I got a call from the customer , postponing the meeting to 4:30PM. Double Suck...

Gotta spent almost 2 hours at the customer cafe. The nego went okay. No major problems. Got the deal... During that nego session, I kept missing phone calls from another customer... the phone was on silent mode.. Called back the other customer, and talked for about 45-minutes on the handphone..settled.

Later at night, I was there, watching TV, to see Tiger Woods, paired with Nick Faldo and Katayama for the 2006 British Open Golf Tourney. On the 1st hole, Tiger bogeyed....up to the 14th hole..Tiger was 2 under; not that impressive considering the leader was at 6 under.. it was late..around 1:30am..3 holes to go; don't believe Tiger was "in-the zone"; turned off the TV, and then went to have some zzzzz...

Woke up..check the internet..and on the last 3-holes, Tiger made 3 under..birdie, par, eagle. Damn, I missed that!!!!

PTGC annual golf championship 2006

Two days tournament. Stroke play. Saturday and Sunday. 1st day I played quite well; 1 under my handicap. I was just infront the championship flight on the 2nd day. Played with two of the slowest golfers that I've ever played in my entire golf life. Hampeh!!! It was hot, humid, and the worse was waiting 2-3 minutes everytime this two golfers were to hit the ball...come to putting, it's worse. Our flight were so slow that the flight infront "zoom" 2 holes past us. In the end, I did okay..but can be better. No excuses though. Got 8th placing on Gross score. Did not win but at least I played under the gross category not net;... that itself was an achievement.

Tanjung Puteri Resort, Pasir Gudang, Johor

I had a chance to play at "Tanjung Puteri Resort" in Pasir Gudang, yesterday. Zowie!!!! What a place to play golf. 3 full 18-holes ....not 3 9-holes, but 3 immaculately maintained 18-holes. The fairway is so good...so green..so beautifullll. The greens are pretty good too...a bit too slow for my liking.

I'm full of envy of those lucky Johoreans and Singaporeans golfers who would have a chance to play this course regularly. Played decent; scored 83..11 over; not bad for a first timer.

NOT all wounds received in combat can be seen by the naked eye. One episode this week will have an impact on more than just the main actors named or involved.

It will test the already frayed lines of trust between the Government and the public, it will fuel paranoia, and it will cast doubt on the integrity of public servants and politicians.

Perhaps more than anything else, it will rock one of the cornerstones of governance anywhere: The willingness to take what the Government says or does at face value.

As a case study, let’s look at the startling allegations in Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli’s RM13 billion counterclaim against the Government, Danaharta and a host of individuals and companies.

In a nutshell, the tycoon is alleging that he was instructed in 1994 to buy a stake in Malaysia Airlines at way above the market price to help the Government avert a financial crisis brought about by heavy losses in foreign exchange speculation.

The way he tells it, he was a reluctant investor and only agreed to buy the stake for RM1.8 billion because he had been persuaded by the then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin that he would be absolved of all liabilities if the job of running the airline became too onerous.

Tajudin also said he was assured that when the country’s financial health improved, the Government would buy back the MAS shares.

He had to keep the backroom negotiations secret because the market would have been spooked had word got around that such deals were being cobbled together by entrepreneurs and the Government.

In 2000, the Government bought the MAS shares at RM8 a share, 117 per cent over the market price.

Tajudin is taking legal action because the Government allegedly reneged on an agreement to protect him from losses and liabilities.

The merits of his case will be heard by the High Court on Aug 10, but the court of public opinion has begun passing out judgments like confetti at a wedding.

Some say it is a self-serving tale, a yarn spun by a man with his back to the wall; a man fighting to make sure that his money and companies are not taken from him.

Others pitch Tajudin as the victim and paint Dr Mahathir and Daim as the villains of the piece.

Their main point: That the once-powerful tycoon had little choice but to play the role of national saviour.

A variant of "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country".

Perhaps a less obvious fact is that the big losers in this whole episode are not individuals but the GOVERNMENT.

Not the Government that was in office in 1994 and 2000 but the institution — the branch of the executive.

Why? Because every time allegations and accusations are made on how business is conducted by ministers, senior government officials and civil servants, it:

• lowers the estimation of Government in the eyes of the public;

• turns more believers into sceptics;

• reinforces the belief among some Malaysians that little those in power say or do can be taken at face value; and,

• can cut the umbilical cord of trust between the governing and the governed.

Tajudin’s allegations are a stark reminder of how combat can leave a trail of unintended victims.

We check-out from Bukit Keluang Beach Resort on Wednesday morning; around 8:45ish and headed to the Pulau Perhentian Jetty. It's a short 15 minutes drive. Parked the MPV at one of the houses which provides parking services @ RM5/day. We took the speed boat; I meant... a real SPEEEED Boat to the Island. Within 30 minutes; we were there and was greeted by a splendor scenery; a welcoming party which played traditional music and the complimentary welcome drinks. Checked-in and out we went to check out the "crystal-clear" water.

Coral View resort is a nice place to vist either you're there alone; with a partner or with the family. Highly recommended. You don't have to take any boat ride to snorkel ,my friend,... just do it there. The water are full with colorful fish species. Bring along some bread; and you will get the chance to experience those fishes nibbling the bread from your fingers. A lot of activities; snorkeling to Pulau Rawa, Lighthouse Coral; etc,etc. For sandy white beach, just walk over to the other side of the Coral view beach and you'll be greeted by fine white sandy beach. Stayed there for 3 days 2 nights; too short......

We arrived at Bukit Keluang Beach Resort , Kuala Besut at around 12 noon. We chose this resort based on the recommendation of a friend; WN, the CFO of the company le. We were a bit confused when we saw no sight of the beach from the resort. .

" Tempat ni ada beach ke? Mana beach dia?"

" Just 5 minutes walking distance around the corner; sir"

We were pleasantly surprised with the size and decor of the family suite. Excellent!!!!
We had our lunch at the "D'Kolam cafe"; situated beside the resort pool.

In the afternoon; we checked out the beach. The beach is not as clean as the Sutera beach ; coz to be fair; it's a public beach, but the water is excellent. You can do a bit of snorkeling. Ada gak le fish yang berwarna-warni tu. A good place to fly a kite; windy oooo... I was able to watched CSI New York and CSI @ D'Kolam; sambil minum "teh tarik"; coz the in-room TV do not offer AXN as one of the ASTRO Channels provided. Repeat visit later? a definate yes..

We had our lunch; nasi ayam and kepok lekor; on a beach ; about 25 kilometers from Kuala Terengganu. So- so gak. The kepok lekor; as usual are superior in taste compared to the kepok lekor in KL. Arrived at Sutera Beach Resort at around 4pm. Checked in into 2 side-by-side rooms. The kids; as usual were excited to check out the swimming-pool and the beach. Somehow the place does not give the same "feel-good" vibes. The food; either dinner or breakfast were quite bland, not enough selections, the rooms seems to be not as immaculate as two years ago; services were bit off; Anyway, as a stop over, it's okay. The pool were nice, and the beach is clean; the sea is clear; not crystal but clear. A hell of a lot clearer than PD!!...ahak. The water is warm; so it"s nice to swim and play in it. We left the place the next day at around 10am; to head to our next destination; Bukit Keluang Beach Resort. The photo taken just before leaving Sutera Beach Resort. Will there be a repeat visit to this resort? I don't think so. It's time to check out other resorts should we decided to have a vacation in this part of the country in the future...

It has been a rejuvenating 1 week vacation with the kids and wifey. Tired but definitely well worth the time and money. Started the vacation on Monday morning 29/5; around 8.30ish; stop over at Karak; to taste a recommended “nasi lemak” stall beside the Karak bomba station; verdict of the place; so-so aje.

This is the first time I’m using the new east-coast highway; direct from KL to Kuantan. The road is good; scenery is good ; the only grudge that I have; ….with a carrier-box on top of your MPV; you can't go pass 120km/hr or else… you will feel like you’re in a dryer, turn on to the top speed of the spin cycle.

So after a so-called relaxing drive ; with the average speed of 100 km/hr; we arrived in Kemaman at about 12 noon. Kemaman; Terengganu; a place where they serve the best “Sata “ in the country. Where at? Right after the “pintu gerbang” welcoming you into Terengganu; about 500 meters; just before the mosque; turn right; going towards the beach; and at the end of the junction; take another right. You will definitely not miss the good “Sata” stall… the stall with a lot of cars parked beside it. Ahh… one more thing; it will only open its doors to the customers at 2pm. We were early; …..way too early; and still full from the “nasi lemak”; so we decided to move to Kuala Terengganu. Our first stop will be the “Sutera Beach Resort”; a resort situated in Merang. We’ve stayed at the resort 2 years ago; as a stop-over before going to Redang Island. We like it so much that we’ve decided to make it a point to stop there for a day before heading to other destinations.

Women's sexual cues have a startling and, some might say, a debilitating effect on men.

When a man catches sight of a beautiful woman, he loses his ability to make good decisions and focus on the task at hand, according to a new study from The University of Leuven in Belgium. Men who have the highest amount of natural testosterone are the most vulnerable to a woman's sexual cues, reports the BBC News.

The study: More than 175 heterosexual male students ages 18 to 28 were recruited to play financial games that would test their sense of fair play. Each man's testosterone level was assessed by comparing the length of his index finger to his ring finger; men whose ring fingers are longer have a higher testosterone level. Just before the financial games began, the men were shown various images.

One group of 44 men were given pictures to rate. Some in this group were shown photographs of landscapes, while the others viewed sexy images of women.
A second group of 37 men were given a bra or a T-shirt and were asked to assess the quality, texture and color of the item.
A third group of 95 men were shown either pictures of elderly women or young models.
After this, they all played the financial game. Pairs of men were given $10. One man suggested the money be split, and the other had to accept or reject the offer. If the offer was accepted, they each walked away with $5. If it was rejected, neither man got to keep any money.

The results: The men who were exposed to the alluring images performed far worse in the financial games than the men who had not seen them. Those who had been exposed to the sexual cues were more likely to accept an unfair offer than those who were not, reports the BBC. The sexual cues seemed to distract them from the task at hand, making it difficult to concentrate and focus. Those who had the highest levels of testosterone performed worst on the test, perhaps because they are most sensitive to alluring images.

Dr. Siegfried DeWitte, one of the researchers who worked on the study, told the BBC: "We like to think we are all rational beings, but our research suggests...that people with high testosterone levels are very vulnerable to sexual cues. If there are no cues around, they behave normally. But if they see sexual images they become impulsive."

The study findings were published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B. Men."

I'm pissed. I really am. Today I found out that my ex-company, a company that I used to own some shares, has been putting my name in their invoices. I don't know the reason behind it, and I don't really care, but it was really "low". I only get to know about it when "the CUSTOMER" asked me about the status of the ex-company; in which my reply has always been a standard " I don't know".
"Can we just go through you to settle this issue?" the CUSTOMER.
" I still know the people in there, I can try"
" ...anyway, your name is there in this invoice dated ...., and we need to settle this ASAP " the CUSTOMER
" The hell???? "

Called the owner there and then, in front of the CUSTOMER, to ask for clarifications. He's on roaming and was not answering. I called the ex-CFO ; which admitted his honest mistake of putting my name into those invoices. Lucky I have my HP on the speakerphone mode for everybody to hear the conversation.

My home club, PTGC, owned by the KDEB, has been in a bad condition for the last 3 weeks. Reason? The management of the club were unable to cut the fairway grass due to faulty grass-cutter machines. WTF??? The first week was not that bad, come 2nd week, hitting the fairways feels like the hitting from the first-cut rough...3rd week, no fairways, rough all the way.

Members were furious. Complains were aplenty, yet no actions were taken by the club management to improve the situation.

Called in mid week last week to ask one of the staff about the situation.

"so, dah potong rumput ke dak?"
"Belum la, mesin potong rumput still rosak"
"La, management tu tak reti nak sewa mana-mana mesin potong rumput ke?"

Yesterday, I went to the PTGC, to play a round of golf, with no high expectation to the condition of the golf course ; but to my suprise, it was already cut and the green condition were excellent.

"Hey, hey,hey, what happened?"

"The KDEB bosses held a competition Sunday morning and were also here to participate in the golf tourney, .... we have to impress them la, so on friday, we were able to do the course maintenance; pinjam la mesin potong rumput sebelah."

" Wooi Yoo, if that's the case, I would love to have those KDEB bosses every week @ PTGC" " Course condition would be immaculate!!!!!"

No golf story today...but maybe some "cerita basi". About Malaysian politic...one day you're friend, another day you can become enemies.

Background;
Malaysia needs another bridge. A bridge that will link two countries; Malaysia and Singapore. A bridge that will allow ships to pass through; therefore; the couseway ;"Tambak Johor" would have to be demolished; and with that our port; Tanjung Pelepas ; would be the main port for all ships within the region; which will probably kill the "largest and biggest and the most profitable" port in the whole wide world; the PSA Singapore Terminal. Project was mooted and visualized during the ERA of the previous Prime Minister; the great Tun M.

"Apa Nama? Singapore tak nak a "straight bridge"? Takpa, kita bole buat bridge tu crooked; kah;kah; padan muka dia orang"

So the story goes; The new PM; Pak Lah inherited the project.

School holiday is just around the corner. It's that time of the year. Vacation with the family. Yee Haa. Going to spend a week with the wife and kids. This year will be a "beach" and "island" vacation. Sutera Beach Resort @ Merang, 2 days 1 night, then Bukit Keluang Resort@ Besut, 3-days 2 nights before heading to Coral View Resort@Perhentian Island, 3 days 2 nights . Plan to stop at Kemamang for the delicious Sata, Kepuk Gete. Plan to also go to Kota Bharu, Kelantan, on the 2 day while @ Kota Keluang; they say it's only 45 minutes driving.

I believe I would need extra space to put in all the baggages. About time to check-out the MPV carriage; the one that will be fitted on top of the roof. Top of the line will be THULE, made in Sweden; sturdy, reliable.

Since the session 2 of the COTS and solutions validation does not have the qourom of some critical members past wednesday at 0915 as scheduled, nor at 1030 as deferred, it did not happen.
We understand that some critical members may need to reprioritize their time due to the major projects coming onboard. I am sincere in saying I was NOT frustrated nor sore at any individual, though I was irritated with the fact that the critical members required for quorum are just too difficult to be scheduled together.

Therefore, I suggest that D pls call for the session 2 at a time of your convenience. We shall ensure our attendance where practical and inform you otherwise if not.

Now for a more difficult topic,
please clarify if Application Consultants are required to conduct all product demonstrations everytime.
My "preference is for App Consultants to conduct product demonstrations only for prototyping stage, or technical demonstrations, and sales people should eventually be fully capable and conduct standard off the shelf product presentations, with app consultants in attendance wherever required.

D's idea is for app consultants conduct All product demos becoz the so called techies are more familiar of the system since they hav opportunities to play with them whereas sales people have other concerns.

I disagree with this specific observation becoz it does not look like our sales have the capacity to focus on product sales in the near term. In such a situation, the techies will practically only play with the system(s) once to twice a year, or once in two years, as per our experience with "XX", "XY" and "XYZ". This effectively levels the playing ground and makes no difference whether it is a sales person or app consultant conducting standard product demonstrations.

However, as brought up in my many discussions, leading up to one grandmother of all discussions with D on 05 April and minuted online, should our sales direction, or a portion of our sales team, is to focus on product, or solutions with specific products, going forward, this will be more practical. Having said this, if the sales person is focusing on a range of products, or specific solutions with specific products, the sales person should be fully capable of demonstrating it out of box since it is their ricebowl.

If it is an issue of personalities instead of roles, like ZZ, in my opinion, rightly pointed out, lets develop the people and acquire the required proficiency.

i m not afraid of learning new skills everyweek and taking on additional roles, including as proposed to Daniel several times, taking on sales role fulltime; if i hav been (which i believe i hav) such a pain to and energy sapping for D running the app consulting group the way i do(not).
J has demonstrated the willingness to structure the skills required and map out development paths so we can develop people;
NN has always played multiple roles and continues to do so without complain;
OB has rightly identified one area of ELP is presentation skills and asked me to prepare and deliver presentation training as part of biz english, while he develops the rest;
p.n has volunteered to put up and administer metadot intranet portal so our body of knowledge and organizational intelligence can be preserved and mined;
SLS has been supporting us technically and volunteered to undertake ST training though it is not in his domain going forward (and knowing full well, once trained he will be involved happy or not)
in short we are all enthusiastic, we have all demonstrated our willingness to and continueto go the extra mile

my challenge to all of us senior execs, are we prepared to walk the walk, after all our save the world co mission hubris and what not. or like J wrote in one email, sometimes it feels like father crabs trying to teach our children (staff and clients) how to walk straight.

if we continue to believe that some of the people we are hiring going forward, eg. for sales, may be incapable of learning up and acquiring the proficiency to conduct an off the shelf standard product demo, i think all the things we are doing are for nought, becoz, they probably will be too thick to learn how to use our intranet portal and download the standard templates to prepare proposals.

somewhere in this pessimism, i have high hopes for the company and our team. partly becoz i turned down a job offer early this year which pays me in six months what the company pays me in three years (and i continue to kick myself in the backside for it). These offers happen, as i am sure to many of us, when we are often with high profile work like audit and consulting for big name clients. I strongly believing there is much more potential, fun, excitement, learning and future in the company. please do not burst my bubble by reducing this into a mere 10-8 job. especially when the personalities mentioned above hav all stepped up to the challenge after D's morale boosting presentation early in the year.

Saujana Impian. Voted to be THE course with the best green in Malaysia. The green's lightning fast, but soft enough to bite...roll is very true. Played there today. Started from the back-nine. Drove the first hole, a short par-4 with a 3-wood, smack down in the middle of the fairway. Hit my iron on to the green. two-putted. Par. The next two holes was quite a nightmare. On the 2nd par 4 hole, my drive veered off to the right. 2nd shot, hit a tree branch, then pitch to the apron of the green. Stupid chip and the 2-putted for a double boggie. 3 rd hole, a nice-over-the-water par 3. Hit my ball with a 5-iron over the green into a bunker....deeep in the sand....yuckie...another double boggie. 4 -over after 3 holes. Bad start. Then 3 pars in a row. A boggie on a par five. Par and a birdie on the last hole of the front-nine(back-nine of the course). Scored 40. Hey,hey,hey...not bad.

2-nd Nine. Boggie, Boggie, Par, Par,Par, Double-Boggie, Par,Par. 4 over after 8 holes. On the last hole, my drive went into a fairway bunker, 145 meters from the hole. I need a par to play 80, or a birdie to play 79. That's when I hit the best shot of the round. Hit my 6-iron, solid, from the fairway bunker, into the green. Two-putted for a par. Ahhhhhh....What a feeling. a good round, 80, 8-over, 2-under my HC of 10. Yee Haa!!!!

Zowie!!!!! the company is waiting for 3 letter of award this week... big ones. Now, we will have a different kind of headache. The kind that I like...resource scheduling, project management, implementation, bla, bla, bla. With that , the hopes of getting our "bonus" this month looks pretty gooodd.

On the bright side, I will have the "ease of mind" to enter this year ASTRO's Masters. Booked three dates, at three different courses; Templer Park, Palm Garden and Kota Kemuning, in which ASTRO "guaranteed" two tournaments to paid-entry form. My wife seems to be exited to know that I'm participating. He,he....she must be thinking that I would have a chance to get a placing in these tourney...pressure la cam ni.......macam bole menang aje...cheesh..

my game is off, as of today. Played @ Kajang Hill, with 3 of my buddies. First, gotta give 4 -4 to one guy, the other two 2-2. My game was playing havoc. Not that I played that bad, but these "damn" so-called high-handicappers were playing a game that's not supposed to be their game, all three of them at the same time. In the end... I lost...BIG TIMEEEEE.

The Highlander Golf Invitational 2006; April 15 2006

MMC, or previously known as TTC, a subsidiary of the largest Malaysian TELCO, held their annual golf event last Saturday @ Bukit Unggul. And as one of the MMC vendors, I need to sponsor the event, man!!!!. The Company splashed in a few thousand ringgit gak to the event, but it's ok.
2 days before the event , tested the course, just to familiarize myself with the green, etc. Scored decent, won big..menang keliling, partnership and individual. Cukup duit untuk pergi berurut...ahak.

120 golfers participated in the event, broken into 3 categories, the Highlanders (hadiah2 yg best le), vendors ( hadiah decent) and guest (hadiah hampeh). Event started at around 8.15am, weather was great for golf, my group started at the 3-rd hole, 1st nine, (shotgun start). Boggied the 1-st hole, sucks coz it's a par-five. At the end, my game did came together. Scored an 81, 40 on the 1st nine, 41 the 2-nd nine. 39 points ( the organizer declared me with a handicap of 12 which I "gracefully" accepted without an inch of complain,... tak pa la kot, atas dua aje compared to my current HC of 10). 2nd placing for the vendor categories, and NTP on one of the par three. All in all , not a bad outing..dapat la a new home-theatre system and a pitch-n-chip practise net, on top of the goodies.

Have not been updating the blog for quite some time....Been busy. Job wise , no complain. Getting the usual sales, eventhough, I really hope that my customers will use "To-the-max" the solution and services that they have bought from us...

Back to golf, at last, I REALLY believed that I"ve FINALY found THE way to consistently hit a "somewhat" solid golf shot, ball-striking wise. Make me more confident of breaking 80 everytime I tee-off...eventhough it really doesn't happen that frequent. Oh well... hopefully this revelation will last longer than the other thousands revelation that I've "so-called" found in the years of trying to improve playing this game.

During the school holidays, sent the kids to the grandma, and went off to a "relax and rejuvenate" escapade at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Damai Laut with the wife.

"Trying to get the feel of being young again , huh? kah,kah,kah" My mom to me, when I told her about the trip.

Just finished reviewing and presenting the 2005 company's performance and the 2006 budget. Company is in the black. Able to share a bit of the profit with the personnels. Not bad. Not bad at all. Just need to improve on billing collections. Have some overflowing revenue coming into 2006. Budget to increase a bit on resources, promotions, some branding exercises, oversea expansion and of course, salary adjustment. Hope everything's okay with the BODs. Anyway, gotta work smarter and harder this year. Target revenue and PBT has gone up by 50%. In a way, I'm quite sure the company can achieve it's targets, but who knows?.....

Anyway, it's time to play golf....I'm outta 'ere

The start of a long 1 week holiday for the kids...and myself. No expensive trip for the family this time. Been planning and saving?? to have a whole 1 week holiday to the east coast in May. Insyaallah.

For the past 3 weeks , it has been very hectic working weeks...planning wise. Feels good when as a management, we were able to give some token of appreciation to the whole team in the company this year...unlike last year...kena pileh kasih sket. Anyhow, I need to make sure this happens, coz I NEED the incentive myself. Have to work smart before April. That's when the company plan to announce the salary review. As a management, the advantage is, you don't really have to guess how much increment you wanna give yourself, you can put whatever you want as long as you can back it up with facts... , Gotta make sure I spend my time towards the high value, high profit prospects.

Golf wise... sucks. Been strugling to get the swing back. The short game is nowhere as good as before. Putting? Don't even ask. Dunno what's wrong. But yesterday I"m begining to see that my game was coming back. For the first time, this year, I shot a decent low 80 round. I was a bit in control of the golf swing...thanks to Vijay Singh. I observed his swing, especially his grip on TV, and try to emulate the guy. The result...Hey!!!!! It works.

Another year, another season for the alumni golf tour. No change of play format this year. Increase in the tournament fee. YUCKS. Still using the stableford system, with our own handicaping system. I'm playing to a hc 14 , when in reality, I'm a hc 10. Looks unfair, if I'm the only person doing this. In reality, nobody knows the real hc of the other person. It might be good and more interesting if we use strokeplay , nett and gross, with medal A, hc 0-12, B hc 13-18 and C hc 19 and above. After a few tournaments, we can gauge the most consistent players among ourself. With the gross score in line, we can eliminate the missing of 2-footer putts from the lower handicappers, usually done on purpose, to disguise their real hc from the organizer. Anyway, that's just rambling from someone's who's not really interested to be in the organizing commitee. Kudos to the commitee.

p.s. I won't be joining the game this time around, gotta play in my club monthly tournament. A helluva lot cheaper...........YEE HAA

Ah....another year, another resolution....none from me. So, what's new for year 2006;
1) Salary....no black-and-white increment; only verbal, since last June; got paid the extra salary in August; which I"ve used the mullah to purchase the new iPAQ 6515. Up to now, nobody knows what happen to the rest.

2) Have not done my claim; since January of last year; got to do that...lucky I've got every info within reach.... sync everything into the PC; just gotta get it out from there and transfer it to my claim form.

3) My handicap got worse; from 9 to a 10.

Pristin Transview Golf tournament @ PTGC

It was certainly not a tournament for the lower-handicappers. The tournament was played using the modified stableford system. Medal A was for 0 to 16 handicappers. I played quite well. Scored 82 on the stroke play; even with a 2 strokes penalty inquired when I stupidly removes some "kemuncup" around my ball, at rest. All the winners came from the higher handicappers; to be exact; the 16 handicappers. 5th place got 41 points. The winner was a guy who manage to score 46 points. I got 35 points; the only consolations, won LD....not longest drive but lucky draw. Will only take part in a stroke play tournament in the future.

"I have never said that studying Math & Science is not Good...I was in SMSS from 73-74. I took MCE, All the nine subjects were in English ( Subjective tau ) Xcept Malay and Ugama.
But when I grow up, Involved my self with education ( Not politics Ha..) and try to understand the efforts of BUILDING A NATION.. like what the Japanese, Korean, German, British, Chinese, Russians. do ..( a few more..) I now understand the need of my mother's tounge
language. Americans do not built their nation. America is the melting pot of many nations who just want to seek opportunity and fortunes. ( A researched was done by a scholar from UKM. Prof. Shahrir Md Zain...( mathematician ).. 80%of the Nobel Laureat, were educated in their own mother tounge's language, at least up to the Bachelor degree before they immigrated to the USA -the land of opportunies ). Believe me...In 20 years to come...If the present trend is to stay.. we will never again see food ingradients written in the Malay Language on food wrappers or food package. Why??? because nobody understand it.. and by the way who needs it anyway..Everybody is talking in English when it comes to science technical terms.
Remember.. We are talking about BUILDING A NATION with pride....not building a rumah setinggan. To remind again.. English is VERY important.

Just ponder: When Malaya or British were ruling before.. or may be in the 60s and early 70s...English was the main stream at that time.. (mind you I was in Malay school.. then remove class and only then English ).. were the Malays .. ( excuse me to the non-Malays )...much better of in Science and technology.. in 60s and 70s. The core of the problem is Sound Education system. Recently ( my daughter is one of them) the JPA has started sending students to Russia and Ukraine (Ukraine dah stop) and Indonesia to study medicine - to save cost. These students have to speak and write in Russian when they go to clinics. In class they sometimes have to
read medical literatures in Latin...It seems, they wre OK, and survived despite the difficulties. Believe me if most of our students have good command of English.. NO BODY bothers
to ask to teach Science and Math in English.. So logically.. English & Science and Math have VERY little correlation.

One silly question to ponder .. If we want our footballers to be like the Brazilians.. why don we ask the coach and sports teachers teach football in Brazillian (?) or Spanish for that matter.. Ini joke je..

I rest my case here for a while.. I may be wrong !!!!. But I want my future generation know that I contributed to the Nation building...

There was this video clipping; purportedly showing a Chinese national being asked to do ear squats in nude. Everyone was shocked. From a local issue; it became a G to G issue. Bilateral relationship between two countries, China, and Malaysia was in jeopardy. A commision were set-up to investigate the case. Pak Lah scolded his minister for coming up with insensitive comment about the incident. Today, it was revealed that the lady filmed doing the ear squads naked was not even a Chinese national but a local malay. What gives????

Aku dah pernah berambut style budak-budak sekolah, masa kat sekolah rendah and menengah la. Rambut panjang sampai ke dada, style mat rock @ mat dadah, pun dah pernah, ni masa kat University la. Aku tengok muka aku time tu memangla handsome,... tapi menakutkan. Sebijik cam Mat fit. Dengan gitar plak, ke sana , ke sini. Orang lain belajar kat Library, gua kat Student Union....main pool, main video-games,....... sambil belajar. Pernah satu ketika, bapak mertua aku melawat that University, pasai hal kerja; dan masa tu plak, aku tengah couple ngan anak dia. Dia jeling semacam je. He, he. Siap check keputusan aku lagi, walaupun aku ni different "Scholar". Nasib baik gak aku ni bole tahan pandai nyer,.....muka cam budak kena "probation"...aku tau ni pun, sebab wife aku, masa tu kira awek le, pernah cuba di tackle oleh mamat yang cuba memburukkan imej gua dengan mengatakan gua ni budak takda masa depan, tapi in real life, aku ni "dean's-list" student le. he, he. So, don't judge a book by it's cover. Tapi kan, kalau aku tengok nanti, anak perempuan aku keluar ngan mamat yang "seropa" perwatakan luarannyer, macam aku pada masa tu, aku pun sure reject mamat tu punyer.

Masa aku mula kerja, in US lagi, aku dah potong rambut, tapi still panjang le, ada ekor-ekor. Balik Malaysia, rambut aku still panjang gak. Pernah aku ditegur oleh "boss" aku masa tu, pasal rambut aku yang ada jurai-jurai kat belakang.

Last Sunday, aku rasa macam nak gunting rambut aku , pendek se pendeknyer....kalau gi kedai gunting rambut, cakap aja, nombor 1. Bila aku duduk ajer kat kerusi gunting rambut tu, mamak tu tanyer,

"Camner Bang?"
" No 1, kasi all-around no. 1" Aku
"Huh?!, biar betul bang"
"Yup no 1, Just do it la"

So, Sekarang aku dah berambut ala-ala gondol....and aku bole nampak yang rambut kat tengah lebih jarang dari rambut kat tepi...bahana pakai topi tengah panas, bertahun-tahun, masa di padang golf . Mula-mula pas gunting tu, aku nak gelak tengok muka aku, lama-lama nampak okay la plak. Hmmmmm......................

5) Got to be the runner-up in the Medal-A category, PTGC Monthly Medal tournament. (Scored 78 that day)
